Gamma-ray Line Observations with Rhessi

چکیده
The Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) has been observing gammaray lines from the Sun and the Galaxy since its launch in February 2002. Here I summarize the status of RHESSI observations of solar lines (nuclear de-excitation, neutron capture, and positron annihilation), the lines of Al and Fe from the inner Galaxy, and the search for positron annihilation in novae.

What Gamma-Ray Deexcitation Lines Reveal about Solar Flares
Gamma-ray emission from solar flares reveals information about the nature of the accelerated particles and about the physical conditions of the medium through which the accelerated particles are transported. In this paper, we present the gamma-ray line production and loop transport models used in our calculations of highenergy emission. We discuss the calculated interaction time history, the de...
متن کاملThe Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager observation of the 1809 keV Line from Galactic
Observations of the central radian of the Galaxy by the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopy Imager (RHESSI) have yielded a high-resolution measurement of the 1809 keV line from 26 Al, detected at 11σ significance in nine months of data. The RHESSI result for the width of the cosmic line is (2.03 +0.78 −1.21) keV FWHM. The best fit line width of 5.4 keV FWHM reported by Naya et al. (199...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Polarimetry of Two X-Class Solar Flares
We have performed the first polarimetry of solar flare emission at γ-ray energies (0.2–1MeV). These observations were performed with the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) for two large flares: the GOES X4.8-class solar flare of 2002 July 23, and the X17-class flare of 2003 October 28. We have marginal polarization detections in both flares, at levels of 21 ± 9% and -...

Gamma-ray lines from radioactive isotopes, ejected into interstellar space by cosmic nucleosynthesis events, are observed with new space telescopes. The Compton Observatory had provided a sky survey for the isotopes 26 Al, detecting supernova radioactivity and the diffuse glow of long-lived radioactivity from massive stars in the Galaxy. High-resolution spectroscopy is now being exploited with ...
متن کاملRadio emissions from double RHESSI TGFs
A detailed analysis of Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) terrestrial gamma ray flashes (TGFs) is performed in association with World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) sources and very low frequency (VLF) sferics recorded at Duke University. RHESSI clock offset is evaluated and found to experience changes on the 5 August 2005 and 21 October 2013, based on the an...
